Course outline and learning intentions

Course description

This course provides a thorough introduction to occupational formulation and setting measurable occupational goals. It is presented in 10 modules, with video lessons supported by text lessons and downloadable documents. The course provides the theoretical underpinning of occupational formulation, guides learners through drafting a formulation and goals, and provides guidance for getting started with occupational formulation in practice. The course content draws upon “A guide to the formulation of plans and goals in occupational therapy” by Parkinson and Brooks (2021) and it is strongly recommended that learners purchase this guidebook. A downloadable course workbook encourages reflection on learning and provides a record of key content, and a certificate is issued upon course completion.

Planning your learning

The material covered in the Foundations course is expected to take approximately one day to complete. Modules vary in length and while they could be completed one at a time, learners are encouraged to negotiate protected professional development time (e.g. either one full day or two half days) to undertake the Foundations course, as would occur when participating in a live course. If completing the modules over two half days, it is recommended that modules 1-5 are completed in one session, and modules 6-10 in the second session.
