Quick recap & example - Key occupational needs
Quick recap - Key occupational needs
We're aiming for 3-4 key needs, numbered, using the person’s words where possible, linked to occupation, and flowing from the identity and competence sections e.g. “To do [something]” or “Doing [something]”; key needs may include verbs such as increase, enhance, extend, build, develop, strengthen, create, enable, reduce, decrease, maintain.
The three key occupational needs below flow clearly from the information in Ivy’s occupational identity and occupational competence sections: reflecting things that are important to her, with which she is experiencing difficulties.
Ivy's key occupational needs
1. To do self-care tasks without help
2. To get back to swimming regularly
3. To do homework without stressing out
The other options in the quiz were not correct:
“To build a strong routine” is not correct as concerns around this are not reflected in the identity or competence sections.
“To build fitness” is not correct, although Ivy values fitness and participates in walking and running, she specifically wants to return to swimming.
“To decrease sensory sensitivity” is not ideal as it does not link clearly to occupational participation, however it may be an approach used as part of addressing the need for doing self-care tasks without help.
